It's Not a Matter of Getting in Back of the Line. There is No Line.
This week on the pod, we talked with the incredible Cheska Perez, a recent high school graduate from Nevada who shared her story of wanting to serve her country in the military, but not having the option because of her immigration status. Her passion to serve was channeled instead into volunteering and eventually working for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and advocating for immigrant communities in her own state and beyond. Cheska is a rising star in the world of immigrant rights and progressive politics, and we are thrilled she chose to share her story with us this week.

Following up on our conversation with Cheska, we spoke with Cat (Pantsuit Nation's Chief Operating Officer and call to action maven) about our actions the week. We encourage all Pantsuit Nation members and pod listeners to go to defenddaca.com to register for one of the events on August 15, a day of action to protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). August 15 marks 5 years since 800,000 immigrant youth have been able to get legal protection, go to college, and support their families, but the current administration is facing pressure from a small handful of state Attorney General's to reverse this incredibly important immigration policy created under President Obama. In addition to showing up on August 15, you can also find many resources for taking action at United We Dream.
For this episode's Golden Pantsuit, we recognized another badass woman who is serving her country in more ways than one. Along with most of the rest of Facebook, we were enthralled and cheering our computer screens this week when Amy McGrath, a congressional candidate from Kentucky, released the most epic campaign video perhaps of all time:
If you're like us and pretty much obsessed with this woman, you can imagine our excitement when we called her up to award her the prestigious Golden Pantsuit and SHE ANSWERED THE PHONE.
AND THEN PROCEEDED TO BE JUST AS AWESOME AS WE THOUGHT SHE WOULD BE.
Amy, you are amazing. Thank you for your service in the Marines, for standing up to run for office, and for being a role model for young women and men everywhere. We're looking forward to following your campaign.
"Some are telling me a Democrat can't win in Kentucky. That we can't take back our country for my kids and yours. We'll see about that." - Amy McGrath.
